An IPA a Day Keeps the Doctor Away
Heady Topper Double IPA (The Alchemist)
I’ve been wanting to get my hands on this for a very long time, and here I am. I didn’t even have to leave Colorado!
And thought it tells you to drink from the can, I’m inclined to get the full experience.
It pours an apricot color and is cloudy and unfiltered. The head sticks around for a long while and leaves sticky lacing around the glass.
Peach, grapefruit, honey, pineapple aromas permeate the beer.
The taste is what all double IPAs should be, in my opinion. Very little sense of the alcohol, it’s not overly sweet and malty as many DIPAs tend to be. Just a ton of grapefruit and pineapple dominated flavors, and even a touch of grain and malt.
It was a real pleasure to drink this beer. It’s consistently rated the best IPA in the country. I don’t know if I’d necessarily say that, and I’m sure the hype machine has had quite a bit of influence on its ranking in some circles, but it’s still a damn good beer.
